ATA (WA) Inc. History

In December 1996, the Western Australia Government, through the State Training Board, recognised Automotive Training Australia (WA) Inc as the Automotive Industry Training Advisory Board (ITAB) for the automotive industry in Western Australia.  In 2003, the Federal Government withdraw funding for all state ITABs, stating they were the States' responsibility.  This included the network of 29 national ITABs, which have now been replaced with eleven National Skills Councils.

Through the recognition of ATA (WA) Inc, the State Government has given the automotive industry the opportunity to adviser the State Training Board, the Department of Education and Training, and other state government departments on current and future training needs of WA's automotive industry.

The role of ATA (WA) Ltd. includes:

Establishing a training culture within the automotive industry;
Advising Government on the industry's current and future training needs;
Marketing and promoting the industry to the general community;
Liasing with the industry, employer, and employee associations on training issues;
Liasing with the school sector on Vocational Education and Training (VET) issues;
Ensuring equity and access issues are addressed within the training arrangements;
Providing advice on accreditation arrangements and the registration of training providers as a means of quality assurance;
Providing state input into the development and implementation of the National Training System;
Liasing with the National, State and Territory Industry Advisory Bodies and Skills Councils on training related matters.
