In December 1996, the Western Australia Government, through the State Training Board, recognised Automotive Training Australia (WA) Inc as the Automotive Industry Training Advisory Board (ITAB) for the automotive industry in Western Australia. In 2003, the Federal Government withdraw funding for all state ITABs, stating they were the States' responsibility. This included the network of 29 national ITABs, which have now been replaced with eleven National Skills Councils.
